The Jordan McNair Safe and Fair Play Act were unanimously passed in both the House of Delegates and the state Senate. This bill empowers student-athletes, provides them with more rights to their own namesake and likeness and adds further protection. The bill is named after Jordan McNair, the former University of Maryland offensive lineman who died in 2018 after suffering from heatstroke at a team workout. When people think about community service, black history, and culture, people often have J. Morris in mind. Always musically inclined, his artistic destiny was prophesied to be at a local church years before his birth. Starting off as a natural on drums, his talent went from banging on pots and pans to playing horns for his church. J. Morris kept growing his musical appetite and went from playing for the church to start a high-school band called the “Essential Sounds Band”. It was Go-Go music catering to the local market and the band was embraced from Washington D.C. to Dale City, Virginia. Two American locations knee deep in not only historic culture but black history.

Songwriter, film, and television producer, and screenwriter, Angela Marie Hutchinson, has teamed up with Grammy-nominated music producers, Bruce and Ebony Vanderveer of Inrage Entertainment. Hutchinson wrote the theme song with the Vanderveers for Vanessa Simmons’ new talk show, ‘Asking for a Friend.’
The digital series premieres on January 28 on Facebook through its We the Culture program, an initiative that celebrates and uplifts black storytellers. ‘Asking for a Friend’ airs weekly every Thursday on Simmons’ public figure page.
